Have you had your COVID-19 booster shot?

Boosters significantly cut down your risk of getting severely ill. You’re eligible for a booster if it’s been at least five months since your primary vaccination series with either Pfizer or Moderna, or at least two months since your Johnson & Johnson vaccination.

Free Community Vaccination Center

A free Community Vaccination Center is open for first dose, second dose, and boosters for adults and children.

  • Federal Way Performing Arts Center now through Monday, Feb. 28 from noon
    to 7 p.m.
  • Click here to schedule an appointment. Drop-ins are welcome.

COVID test kit

At-home COVID-19 tests are covered by your medical plan

Federal guidelines require all health plans to pay for FDA-approved over-the-counter (OTC) at-home COVID-19 tests purchased on or after Jan. 15, 2022.

If you’re covered by a King County employee medical plan, see the information below about how to get reimbursed.

For SmartCare (Kaiser Permanente) members:

You’re eligible to get self-tests at no cost to you at Kaiser Permanente pharmacies, but supplies may be limited. If you purchase tests outside of Kaiser Permanente pharmacies, you’ll have to pay upfront and mail a Member Reimbursement Form and your receipt(s) to Kaiser Permanente. Visit Kaiser’s COVID-19 testing web page for up-to-date information. You can also schedule an in-person COVID-19 test at a Kaiser Permanente facility, if medically appropriate.

For KingCare and KingCare Select (Regence/CVS) members:

If your local in-network pharmacy has COVID-19 tests available, ask at the pharmacy counter if they can direct-bill CVS. If yes, you can get the COVID-19 tests at no cost. If the pharmacy cannot direct-bill, you will need to buy the test and submit a claim for reimbursement to CVS online or through the CVS app. If you need help, call CVS at 800-552-8159. Have your CVS member ID card handy. The King County group ID number is 0385.

Use FSA funds for face masks

As a reminder, you can use your Health Care Flexible Spending Account (FSA) funds to pay for COVID-related personal protective equipment (PPE), such as face masks, sanitizing wipes, and hand sanitizer.

For more information, see the at-home COVID-19 tests FAQs on the employee coronavirus page.

Sheriff's Office Communication Center announces Employees of the Year

Regardless of the type of emergency, virtually every one of them begins with someone dialing 9-1-1. Last year, the King County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) Communications Center answered 527,050 phone calls from people seeking assistance in unincorporated King County and its contract cities. The Center never closes — its employees have been on the job throughout COVID-19, snow storms, forest fires, excessive heat, social protests, and more.

To recognize the great work that takes place in this important department, each year employees nominate and vote on their co-workers who best represent the professionalism and dedication required in their department. Click here to see the 2021 honorees.

Regence programs get you on the path to feeling better

King County is offering several new Health Support Programs through Regence BlueShield to employees and family members covered by the KingCare and KingCare Select medical plans.

These programs provide extra support to employees when they need it. For example, employees may need help understanding a new diagnosis, managing a chronic condition, or handling an illness.

These programs offer on-demand resources and dedicated health professionals that employees can talk to through video visits or phone calls. Many programs provide equipment and apps that help each person track their progress in managing their health. All programs are free and are flexible to fit each person's schedule. Click here to find out more.

Property tax details available online now, statements in the mail soon

Property owners in King County can go online today to view their 2022 property tax details. When visiting www.kingcounty.gov/PropertyTax, property owners can also pay their taxes, look up their property information, and sign up for email or text reminders.

Hard copies of property tax statements, which are typically mailed in mid-February, will be a little later than normal this year. A routine quality control check revealed a validation error before the statements were printed and mailed. While it was quickly corrected, the error delayed production of approximately 350,000 paper property tax statements. Click here to read more.
