We are modernizing WIC!
USDA is investing in the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) and the WIC Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) to:
- reach more eligible families,
- keep families in WIC until they are no longer eligible,
- encourage families to redeem more of their food benefits, and
- advance equity.
USDA thoughtfully crafted a plan, informed by stakeholder feedback, to make significant strides in modernizing both WIC and FMNP. Learn more about USDA's initiatives below.

Our Initiatives- Meeting Today's Families Where They Are
In modernizing WIC, there's a focus on connecting more eligible families to WIC and strengthening service delivery to support better maternal and child health outcomes, with a focus on addressing disparities in program delivery.
We are investing in technology in every step of WIC - applying for the program, interacting with staff, getting benefits, accessing nutrition education, and shopping. Equity and access for underserved communities, particularly for immigrant, Tribal, and minority communities, is a priority of the modernization effort.
