The Alliance for Green Heat (AGH) promotes modern wood and pellet heating systems as a low-carbon, sustainable, and affordable energy solution. AGH works to advance cleaner and more efficient residential heating technology, particularly for low- and middle-income families.

Founded by John Ackerly in Maryland in 2009, the Alliance for Green Heat is an 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Our work includes:

  • Advancing innovation through technology competitions for wood and pellet stoves

  • Working with state and federal agencies to expand and improve programs and materials that include or could include wood and pellet heating

  • Advocating for tax credits and other incentives for the cleanest and most efficient stoves and boilers

  • Educating stakeholders about the value of more widespread, smart deployment of modern wood and pellet heating to reduce reliance on fossil fuels.

Our partners have included the renewable energy, energy efficiency, and climate change community; environmental, forestry, and air quality organizations; the wood and pellet stove industry; and others. We are partnering with the U.S. Forest Service and others to facilitate the delivery of the $8 million allocated to firewood banks under section 40803(c)(17) of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
