The Los Angeles County Health Survey (LACHS) is a
population-based health survey that periodically
collects data to serve Los Angeles County communities
and residents. It was initiated in 1997 and has since
completed 9 waves of data collection. The 8 waves of
data collections between 1997 and 2018 were conducted
via a random-digit-dial telephone survey. In the 2023
wave, the survey design was transitioned to an
address-based sampling method with multi-mode (web and
telephone) data collection. The LACHS includes two
components: an adult survey of randomly selected adults
ages 18 years and older; and a child survey administered
to sufficiently knowledgeable adults about the health
and daily routines of randomly selected children ages 17
years and younger. To account for language diversity,
the survey is conducted in 6 languages: English,
Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, Korean, and Vietnamese.
The LACHS is the Los Angeles County Department of Public
Health's primary vehicle for gathering data on a broad
range of public health topics among county residents.
