On May 4, 2022, a coalition of state attorneys general announced a $141 million settlement with Intuit that compensated Intuit TurboTax customers who paid for tax preparation services that should have been free for them. Approximately 4.4 million consumers nationwide received a payment.  You may view a copy of the settlement agreement by clicking HERE.  The settlement is being administered by a third-party administrator, please do not contact Intuit with questions.

The settlement applies to certain consumers who paid Intuit to file their federal tax returns through TurboTax for tax years 2016, 2017, and 2018 but were eligible to file for free through the IRS Free File Program.  Consumers eligible for a payment were notified by email by the settlement fund administrator.  Those consumers received a payment automatically, without needing to file a claim.  Payments were made by check and were mailed throughout May 2023.  Requests for payment reissue are no longer being granted, however, please use the Contact Us page on this site to keep the payment administrator informed of your current email address.

The amount each consumer received is based on the number of tax years for which they qualify. Most consumers received between $29 and $30.

The settlement fund is being administered by Rust Consulting, a third-party administrator.  For more information about the settlement fund, please see the Common Questions on this site.  Please do not contact Intuit with questions about settlement fund distribution.

Consumers are advised that they do not have to pay money or provide account information to receive a payment.
