Kinver Neighbourhood Development Plan

Newsflash:  Kinver votes YES

The Kinver Neighbourhood Plan was approved by a referendum of Kinver voters on 24 August 2023, with 87% of votes cast being in favour. The next step is adoption of the Plan, after which it will be used in making planning decisions, alongside the Local Plan for South Staffordshire.

Thanks to everyone who worked so hard to bring the plan into being, and to ensure it reflects the views of local people.

Kinver’s is the first neighbourhood plan to be made in South Staffs, but we are sure it won’t be the last.

The Parish Council decided to create Kinver’s Neighbourhood Development Plan to give local people more influence over future planning decisions. Neighbourhood Plans can help guide development, and help to protect our landscape and heritage. And they can set out what changes we should aim for, as opportunity or funding arise. Most of all, they should represent what local people see as the way forward for the next few years. The Plan is being developed by a Steering Group which includes Kinver parish residents, and parish councillors.

We started working on the Plan in October 2020, and the process is likely to take 2-3 years.  Developing the Plan depends on local ideas, views and input to get it right.  What needs to happen as we face the next decade or two?  What do we want to keep, and what needs to evolve?   Formal consultation is built into the process, but even more important will be getting good ideas in place from the beginning.  Your involvement is what will make it happen.

The first consultation of local people, on the issues and options for Kinver’s Plan took place in June 2021.  The draft Plan was developed on the basis of this feedback, and local evidence.

The Regulation-14 consultation on the draft plan was completed in November 2022. After consideration of responses, the revised Plan was submitted to South Staffordshire District Council for Regulation 16 consultation, followed by independent examination.  The final Plan was put to a referendum of all Kinver parish residents on 24 August 2023. After a majority vote in favour, the Plan must be adopted and will influence future planning decisions.
