Introduction

Over the next decade, particularly as we move towards net zero, we will see a significant increase in demand from the public sector and its partners as well as from private home-owners and local businesses, for ‘retrofitting’ housing and other buildings in East Sussex. This will offer opportunities for those construction and engineering companies and trades people who have the right skills to win and deliver these contracts.

East Sussex County Council has secured funding from the Department of Environment, Science and Net Zero (DESNZ) to create a Retrofit Skills Plan for the county in partnership with organisations including District and Borough Councils, Sussex Chamber of Commerce, Uckfield and Eastbourne Chambers, Southdown Housing, Sussex Learning Network, Sussex Council of Training Providers, and East Sussex College Group.

We are keen to understand what our local employers and those working in their supply chain particularly in the construction sector are doing to improve their ‘retrofit’ skills, so that we can support them better.

We are seeking responses to the following survey questions by the 3rd December and can offer a £75 voucher to pay for or towards a retrofit related course at the East Sussex College Group Green Growth Hub to the first 150 respondents to this survey*. And we are exploring ways of offering subsidised learning to those who express an interest in the wider raft of available courses in East Sussex.

*The course needs to be booked for Jan-March 2024.

To help us draft our plan, please can you complete following survey. If you are able to share it with your networks and with your supply chain (those working for you but not employed by you) we would be very grateful
