The Tour de Yorkshire is coming to Kirklees in 2020
It has been announced today that Huddersfield will be one of eight host locations for next year’s Tour de Yorkshire. The Tour de Yorkshire was launched in 2015 as a legacy of the 2014 Grand Départ and this will be the first time the race has visited Huddersfield.
When will the race take place?
The cycling race which saw a staggering 1.96 million people line the route in 2019 will also be visiting Barnsley, Beverley, Halifax, Leeds, Leyburn, Redcar and Skipton. The race will take place next year between Thursday 30 April – Sunday 3 May with the full routes for the 2020 Tour de Yorkshire and Asda Tour de Yorkshire Women’s Race being unveiled on Friday 17 January 2020.

The other locations have already proven themselves as more-than-worthy recipients and we cannot wait to revisit them as well.”
Cllr Shabir Pandor, Leader of Kirklees Council, said:
“We are very excited that Huddersfield has been selected as a host location for the 2020 Tour de Yorkshire. This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase Huddersfield and Kirklees on a truly international stage and to provide the warmest of welcomes to visitors from all over the world.
In line with our recently announced Climate Emergency Action Plan, the Tour de Yorkshire will also provide a great way to celebrate the huge environmental, health and wellbeing benefits of cycling across Kirklees.”
How many roads will be closed. Last time the grand depart took place you could not get from one side of Huddersfield to the other resulting in my having to spend the Saturday night in Doncaster as we needed to be there on the Sunday. Expence to self. What is cost to Kirklees and what are the monetary benefits? In my view we need better drainage for the pond by our House( I have been saying this to the local councillor s for over 5 years) and the money would be better spent there and on other damaged areas in the town Judith Smythe
After witnessing the MAJOR DISRUPTION to Harrogate to Ripon and to the surrounding areas that had anything to do with any of the Races I would strongly question WHY you haven’t considered local people !
I was returning with a camping trailer after a stay in Pately Bridge and was told when I reached Harrogate that I could go no further ! .. NO DIVERSIONS were marked the official did not know of any other routes !
It took me 6 hours for what should have been a 1 and 3/4 hr journey home !
When the tour passed through Huddersfield the other year NO DIVERSIONS were signposted here either and I had people from out of town following me to cross the ring road I hope this time you will consider people BEFORE PROFIT AND STATUS OF THE COUNCIL WHO USUALLY ONLY SUCK UP TO THE UNIVERSITY !
