Her daughters call it a miracle. Marilyn Newton, 61, survived COVID-19 after a 58-day stay at Baptist Hospital in Louisville. Newton’s battle isn’t over yet. On Wednesday morning, Newton’s family was there as she was loaded onto an ambulance that will take her to Kindred Health for rehabilitation. “She was asleep for 37 days and received plasma treatments and a five-day dose of remdesivir,” daughter Amber Newton said. “We were told she wasn’t going to make it, and she is our miracle Marilyn!”Amber says they were able to communicate with their mother via Zoom chat when she was alert. “Fifty-eight days of Zoom calls, 58 days being without you, 58 days of God’s grace and Mercy, 58 days of watching the struggle, 58 days of never giving up hope, 58 days of I love yous, 58 days of watching you win,” she said. Newton told WLKY her mom’s journey has strengthened their family’s faith, and they will continue to help her fight every day. She said Marilyn received two negative coronavirus tests back-to-back, which allowed her to transfer to Kindred. She is still on a ventilator to help with breathing but is hopeful to be breathing on her own very soon.
