NWS Offices Issuing Surf Zone Forecasts

Atlantic and Gulf Coasts Great Lakes West Coast Pacific and Alaska
Barrow Alaska Surf Forecast

For coastal offices not listed above, check the Hazardous Weather Outlook for high risk of rip currents.

Surf Zone Forecasts contain three levels of Rip Current Outlooks:

  • Low Risk: The risk for rip currents is low, however, life threatening rip currents often occur in the vicinity of groins, jetties, reefs, and piers.
  • Moderate Risk: Life threatening rip currents are possible in the surf zone.
  • High Risk: Life threatening rip currents are likely in the surf zone.

When you arrive at the beach, ask the lifeguard about rip currents and other potentially dangerous water conditions expected for the day.
