IGIC Receives Grant for Historical Land Survey Documents Online Project

The Indiana Geographic Information Council (IGIC) is proud to announce it was awarded a $50,000 Heritage Support Grant for our  "Indiana Historical Land Survey Documents Online Project." The Heritage Support Grants are provided by the Indiana Historical Society and made possible by Lilly Endowment Inc.

The "Indiana Historical Land Survey Documents Online Project" will result in digitized historical land surveying documents (1800-1850), creation of a document database with historical time frames and notable historical information from the documents. All information will be merged by mapping the documents to their associated locations in a Geographic Information System (computerized mapping system). The grant award funds will allow us to produced online databases and maps, online document archive, and a Story Map explaining the historical importance of the documents and how the information is used today.
