Mexican national sentenced to federal prison for illegal reentry
FORT MYERS, Fla. – An illegally present Mexican national was sentenced Monday to 30 months in federal prison for illegal reentry into the United States after deportation. This case was investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO).
“There is a lawful process to enter the United States,” said Miami Field Office Director Michael W. Meade. “This criminal failed to follow that process not once, not twice, but seven times.”
According to court documents, Jose Alfredo Carbajal-Espinosa, 34, a citizen and national Mexico, was previously deported from the United States to Mexico on seven occasions. On April 8, 2013, he was convicted of illegal reentry after deportation, a federal felony offense. Following his conviction, Carbajal-Espinosa illegally reentered the United States. Carbajal-Espinosa had pleaded guilty on May 26, 2020.
The case was prosecuted by the office of United States Attorney Maria Chapa Lopez, Middle District Florida, Assistant United States Attorney Trent Reichling.
