Health Department to Expedite Communications for Students Awaiting COVID 19 Contact Interviews

coronavirus (COVID-19) update from Fairfax County

Beginning Thursday, Sept. 16, the Health Department will begin implementing an email communication option to expedite contact with students who have been exposed to COVID 19 but have not yet heard from Health Department staff.

How It Works

Upon receiving an email that your student has been exposed to COVID-19, the parent or guardian is asked to click on a link that indicates they have received the information and understand the quarantine guidelines. After the parent or guardian completes the form, the student (or their parent or guardian) will receive guidance for successful quarantine, including:

  • Completing daily wellness checks through enrolling in Sara AlertTM . This is a secure messaging service that sends a daily email or text message to check on symptoms.
  • Connecting with resources needed to stay home and complete a successful quarantine.

Once the end of the quarantine period for the student has been met, the parent or guardian will receive a clearance from Sara AlertTM that can be taken to school.

Contact Investigators Will Still Call Families

The use of emails in contact investigations begins on Thursday, Sept. 16. Please note, however, that the Health Department’s contact tracers will still be working the phones to reach some families. The Health Department is committed to providing families the information they need either by phone or email.

All parents or guardians who receive the email notification are asked to review the information in the email right away and to click the attestation link at the bottom of the page so the next steps of monitoring can begin.
