Overview
The High Road Kitchens program is a project of One Fair Wage, a 501(c)(3) organization.

The High Road Kitchens program provides funding for full service restaurants to hire or rehire workers and feed those in need. In return, participants are asked to transition to paying One Fair Wage and increase equity through hiring and training practices.
Funding
High Road Kitchens and their partners will provide an $8,000 grant to purchase supplies, cover rent, labor cost, to provide free or discounted meals in the community to those in need. The amount of reimbursement will vary depending on location.
Restaurant Commitments
Restaurant partners would commit to a scaled approach to paying One Fair Wage for all employees within five years of the initial grant award date, achieving full wage parity for tipped and non-tipped employees by January 2027. Restaurant Partners agree to completing our Equity Toolkit and Training program within six months of the initiation of the High Road Kitchens program.

Each High Road Kitchen location will agree to serve at least one free meal for every $20 granted over the course of the eight week program, if the meal requirement is a barrier, please reach out so we can chat further . Restaurant partners will become members of RAISE High Road Restaurants. Membership is free. Details can be found at www.highroadrestaurants.org

Funding will be returned to One Fair Wage, should a participating restaurant fail to meet any of the commitments outlined above by the dates outlined.
Logistics
Orders for free and discounted meals can be placed at least 12 hours ahead of time. Each restaurant may choose their preferred platform or method.

Restaurants will be expected to prepare only one option each day, with additional options, such as vegetarian or gluten free, being left up to the operator. Think of it like the family meal we make for our staff each day.

Customers will specify pick up times when they place their order. Each restaurant can dictate the schedule depending on capacity, in order to help with social distancing. As an example, a High Road Kitchen partner could schedule ten pickups every 15 minutes from 11am – 12pm, distributing 50 orders, and ensuring that there are never more than ten people coming to the location. The restaurant will work with the OFW organizing team to identify distribution sites and dates.

Orders can be paid for on a sliding scale in $5 or $10 increments from $0 - $20. When ordering, customers can choose any amount, knowing that for every $10 they pay, one plate is supported. Essentially, when a customer pays $20, they know that they have paid for their own plate, and “paid forward” one free meal for those in need. There is no vetting or qualifying process for receiving free meals. Operators can limit the amount of free meals served on a given day to any number they are comfortable with.

Operators are also welcome to work with local feeding programs or organizations to help find food insecure folks in their community.
Outreach
High Road Kitchens will support participating restaurants by posting on social media platforms. One Fair Wage will contact low-wage workers who have signed up for the Worker Emergency Fund. We encourage each restaurant to promote the program through their own channels as well. When doing so, please be sure to tag @HighRoadRestaurants
Reporting
