Brownsburg Parks is a tax-exempt government organization, Tax ID 0003120074.
Along with many other community partners, Brownsburg Parks is continuing efforts to re-energize Blast Off Playground and re-launch it into future generations! For over 21 years, the massive playground in Williams Park built by the community continues to be heralded as one of the favorite destinations in Brownsburg and throughout Hendricks County for families to play.
The renovated playground will retain the original spirit envisioned by the community more than two decades ago. However, it will also get much-needed improvements with new play features throughout its footprint and increased accessibility so children of all abilities can continue to play alongside each other.
We have the opportunity to receive a $25,000 CreatINg Places matching grant through the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority, but ONLY if we raise $25,000 first!
Brownsburg Parks and its partners will have invested over $300,000 toward improving this playground by the end of 2022. But, there is more to be done to ensure this continues to be a place for everyone to play. Donations will help transform the playground structures into more sustainable recycled plastic lumber. They will also fund new play features such as bridges, climbers, tunnels, and sensory play equipment. Lastly, the plan is to add new surfacing to increase accessibility to more of the playground. Specific elements of phase 2 are listed below:
In October of 2021, the community demonstrated their passion for this playground, with volunteers contributing hundreds of hours over a week to start the renovation process. Brownsburg Parks has already begun working with community partners to recruit even more volunteers for phase 2, which will be July 13-17. Please help us spread the word!
Every donation and volunteer helps bring this project closer to completion. Thank you for contributing your time, talents, or treasure to improve Blast Off Playground for future generations!
I came in like a wrecking ball...
Yesterday's demolition work at Blast Off Playground helped our day two teams start rebuilding and installing new features.
Decking, railings, and smaller support posts are being installed throughout the play space.
Concrete footings will be poured today to begin installing new play features.
A fresh coat of paint is being applied.
The second large triangle topper is being rebuilt out of sustainable recycled plastic lumber.
This would wouldn't be possible without our volunteers! Help us out today by signing up for a shift at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e084aa5a82ea1f85-blast1.
Thanks to your help, the Town of Brownsburg successfully raised $25,000 through a crowdfunding campaign and will receive a matching grant from the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority CreatINg Places initiative for the project. Funds will be used to build new, much-needed play equipment with accessible features.
But we still need your help July 13-17 to renovate the playground! If you've never used power tools before...no worries! We offer plenty of volunteer opportunities ranging from carpentry, building, childcare, and hospitality. In addition, volunteers will work under the guidance and supervision of a certified playground installer. Children as young as 14 can volunteer, but may not use power tools.
Lunch and dinner will be provided for volunteers as well as children's activities with our trained B.A.S.E. staff to occupy young ones.
