BUFFALO, N.Y. – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Port of Entry seized a firearm in a vehicle that was encountered at the Peace Bridge.

Yesterday, CBP officers encountered a passenger vehicle occupied by a 61-year-old male United States citizen. The driver was destined to Canada and during his inspection declared to a Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officer that he was in possession of a Browning 9 mm handgun. CBSA refused the driver and returned him to the U.S. where he was escorted to the secondary inspection area for further verification

During the secondary examination, it was determined that the driver did personally own the firearm. However, he did not possess a valid pistol permit.

“Our officers remain devoted to keeping our communities safe, and in this case, removing a firearm that was unlawfully possessed,” said Acting Port Director John Madsen. “They remain vigilant, enforcement focused and committed to fulfilling our mission.”

The driver was taken into custody and subsequently processed by CBP officers. After processing, the firearm and driver were turned over to the Buffalo Police Department to face a felony charge of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree.
