Summary/Background:

School Board Policy 8220 was first adopted in July 1986.  It has been revised and reviewed routinely since that time.  The purpose of the policy is to establish procedures for selecting and compensating architects and engineers.  Staff reviewed the policy for effectiveness, efficiency, and alignment with guidelines, Capital Improvement Program, educational specifications, and current philosophies.  Staff drafted revisions to the policy to conform with the Virginia Public Procurement Act and Fairfax County Purchasing Resolution, streamline the selection advisory committee process, and allow for more expedient use of professional services.  On October 19, 2022, the Governance Committee reviewed and recommended the proposed revisions be sent to the School Board for approval.        

Recommendation:

That the School Board approve Policy 8220.5 superseding Policy 8220.4.
