Many Fort Worth residents will be in new City Council districts soon as a result of redistricting that took place last year. Many neighborhood associations and homeowners association are also in new districts.

What’s new: It’s easy to learn how your neighborhood association or HOA has been impacted by redistricting, thanks to the City of Fort Worth’s District Mapping Tool:

  • Select District Mapping Tool, which can be found on the 2023 General Election site.
  • Enter your address in the upper left-hand corner.
  • Slide the horizontal line in the middle of the screen side to side to view your current and future district. Current district numbers are in white and future districts are in black text and say future.
  • Make sure the Neighborhood Organizations checkbox is selected in the right-hand legend.
  • Neighborhood Organizations are identified by black diagonal lines and are labeled with the organization’s name.

Note that this information will only be visible once you zoom in. Not all residents will be assigned to a new district.

Why redistrict? The new districts go into effect this year with the May 6 City Council election. Each of the 10 single-member districts will represent about 10% of the city’s population, or 96,000 residents.

In 2016, Fort Worth voters approved an amendment to the City Charter to increase the number of city councilmembers from nine to 11 following the completion of the 2020 Census. The Task Force on Race and Culture in December 2018 recommended the goal of ensuring that the City Council reflects the diverse communities that it represents. In August 2020, the City Council appointed a Redistricting Task Force. A final redistricting map was approved last spring.

What's next: An estimated 121,567 Fort Worth addresses will change districts. Current District 7 will have the biggest shift, followed by District 8, then District 9.

Watch for new voter registration cards being mailed by Tarrant County Elections in the coming weeks.
