About

Arizona Mobile Driver License (mDL)

The Arizona Mobile Driver License (mDL) is a safe, secure, and trustable solution for presenting your driver license that allows for touchless transactions, selective information release, and data protection. There's no visual inspection of a card -- just an encrypted digital information exchange. Everything else -- a camera, credit cards, house keys, car keys, event tickets -- is on your phone and now your ID can be, too.

mDL is optional to use, and MVD will continue to issue physical, plastic credentials to Arizona residents. Arizonans should continue to carry their physical ID as awareness about mDL grows.

Why Mobile Driver License?

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the mDL a real driver license?

Yes. State law allows ADOT to issue driver licenses both as physical cards and as their digital equivalents. The mDL (in Apple, Google or Samsung wallets, or in our standalone app) is the state's digital driver license.

However, the mDL requires certain technology to be able to read and verify it. It is up to each business or verifier to decide whether or not to have mDL reader technologies available to customers, so keeping your physical card with you is still a good idea.

Can I use my mDL to prove my age?

Yes. State law allows ADOT to issue driver licenses both as physical cards and as their digital equivalents. The mDL (in Apple, Google or Samsung wallets, or in our standalone app) is the state's digital driver license.

However, the mDL requires certain technology to be able to read and verify it and properly record the verification for compliance with alcohol sales laws.

Can I use my mDL in other states?

The mDL is based on an international standard and all states are working towards that same standard. However, the mDL requires certain technology to be able to read and verify it. So while the mDL is valid in other states, just like a physical card, it is up to each business or verifier to decide whether or not to have mDL reader technologies available to customers, so keeping your physical card with you is still a good idea.
