The Pima County Health Department is hiring temporary Border Response Coordinators in support of its Border Health Program. 

A hiring fair will take place on January 5, 2024, from 9am to 4pm at the Abrams Public Health Center, located at 3950 S. Country Club Road.

These temporary and full-time positions will fall under the Emergency Mitigation and Preparedness Division and will play a vital role in Border operations, handling tasks such as intake, providing support for shelter operations, and conducting medical screening questionnaires.

All successful candidates will be expected to work weekends. Initially planned to conclude in June 2024, the positions may be extended based on operational needs and available funding. Interested individuals are encouraged to apply online and attend the hiring fair on January 5, 2024.


This classification is in the unclassified service and is exempt from the Pima County Merit System Rules.  

Duties/Responsibilities

(Work assignments may vary depending on the department's needs and will be communicated to the applicant or incumbent by the supervisor.)

Coordinates, supervises, and participates in the activities of a specialized program;

Provides support and participates in the daily activities essential to the completion of program objectives;

Coordinates program activities with other departments, governmental agencies, and the public;

Meets with representatives of other departments, governmental agencies, and the public to resolve program-related problems, address issues, and discuss program goals and objectives;

Provides internal services support for the program by coordinating activities with such departments as Human Resources, Management Information Systems, Budget, Finance, Purchasing, etc.;

Develops or participates in the development of program goals and objectives and program budgets;

Researches, analyzes, and reports on program activities;

May coordinate and/or supervise daily staff activities including those of other Program Coordinators;

May perform required managerial functions in the absence of management;

May perform public relations activities by speaking, giving demonstrations, and coordinating publicity campaigns with the media.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

Knowledge of:

  • practices of program coordination and administration;
  • principles and practices of budgeting, accounting, and financial management;
  • principles and practices of effective supervision;
  • practices and procedures for providing internal services.

Skill in:
  • developing program goals and objectives;
  • expressing, explaining, and interpreting program policies and practices to the public;
  • communicating effectively, both orally and in writing;
  • supervising, training, and evaluating support personnel.

Minimum Qualifications

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
 
High School diploma or equivalent and one year of supervisory experience.

  1. Bilingual (English/Spanish).
  2. Experience collaborating with external partners or across departments and teams.
  3. Experience in professional communication, both written and oral.
  4. Experience with computers and minimum two (2) years experience in Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. 
Selection Procedure

Licenses and CertificatesValid driver license is required at time of application. Valid AZ driver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicant’s suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services’ review and approval of the candidate’s driving record.
