DES MOINES, IOWA – Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) held a roundtable yesterday at the Central Iowa Trauma Recovery Center (TRC) in Des Moines. Grassley talked with staff of the TRC, supportive community leaders, crime survivors helped by the center and the Alliance for Safety and Justice. The roundtable discussion was held as part of Grassley’s annual 99 county meetings across Iowa.

“Victims of crimes often face lasting consequences from their trauma. The Trauma Recovery Center creates a space for victims to go and seek help so they are no longer defined by the traumatic experience. I will continue to advocate for recovery centers like this to bring awareness to the important work that is done by the staff,” Grassley said.

"We're grateful to Senator Grassley for joining us today so we can highlight the great work being done by the Central Iowa Trauma Recovery Center to make our communities safer. Now more than ever, we need investments in the proven approaches that can stop cycles of violence. By expanding the TRC model, we can ensure victims have the services they need to heal and get their lives back on track. We look forward to working with Senator Grassley and our elected leaders to improve safety across Iowa and the nation," Shakyra Diaz, Chief of Federal Advocacy for the Alliance for Safety and Justice, said

Only one in three crime survivors receive the support they need after a crime. The TRC model was designed to reach survivors of violent crime who are chronically underserved, unlikely to receive help following the crime and is a cost effective way to help.

As former chairman and current ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Grassley continues to help prevent sexual violence and ensure survivors of sexual assault and workplace harassment are empowered to seek justice and live their lives with dignity, hope, healing and recovery. This Congress, he introduced the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act, the Survivor’s Bill of Rights in the States Act and the Preventing Child Sex Abuse Act.

Grassley recently completed his 42nd year of holding meetings in every one of Iowa’s 99 counties. Grassley has held at least one meeting in every county, every year since he was first elected to serve in the U.S. Senate. He takes questions on any subject. Iowans set the agenda.
