Episode 18 of the Halemaʻumaʻu eruption ended abruptly at 1:28 p.m. HST on April 22, just over 10 hours after it started. Both the south and north fountains dropped rapidly together. View All Messages.

Fountains from the south vent are currently over 600 ft high and about 200 ft high from the north vent. The plume is going straight up due to calm winds. Expect the possible fall of Pele's hair and ash north to overlooks and communities. View All Messages.

Episode 18 fountaining phase began with overflow of lava from the south vent and strong deflation at 3:20 pm HST April 22. Both the north and south vents began fountaining (s vent >200 feet) at 3:30 pm HST along with an increase in tremor. View All Messages.

Both the south and north vents are glowing strongly at 9:20 pm HST on April 21. Some minor spatter bursts seen at the north vent and possibly at the south vent in the past hour. View All Messages.
