Remembering the fallen

The Mayor of Kirklees Council, Mumtaz Hussain, is appealing to local people to support the poppy appeal again this year and to remember the fallen.

Once again, communities throughout Kirklees will come together on 10 November to remember those who have given their lives in conflict.

Cllr Hussain said:

“I would urge people to attend their local Remembrance Service so we can help to ensure that the sacrifices people made for our future will never be forgotten.

Remembrance Day is our opportunity to say thank you to those who have served in the past and present, and wearing a poppy is a visible sign of our gratitude.

Families continue to suffer loss in conflicts across the world, and service men and women often return needing support to rehabilitate and move forward. The money raised by the British Legion’s poppy appeal fund provides essential support for those that need it, not only in terms of rehabilitation, but also for those who are experiencing multiple challenges such as being out of work, dealing with mental health problems, financial issues and alcohol abuse.

Welfare services linked to the Poppy Appeal cost more than £1million a week – so please be generous in your support.”

  • a pity the service at the Town hall had to be cancelled due to lack of support. A collection there would have raised funds for the RBL.
