Releases of 2022 State Databases (05/08/2024)

• The HCUP Central Distributor released 2022 state databases through the HCUP Central Distributor Online Reporting System. New releases will be reflected on the Available Databases by Year page.

HCUP Statistical Brief #307: Clinical Conditions with Frequent, Costly Hospital Readmissions by Payer (PDF file, 523 KB KB; HTML) (05/08/2024)

• National estimates on clinical conditions with high hospital readmission counts, rates, and costs among adults were presented overall and by expected payer. In 2020, hospital stays for septicemia had the highest number of 30-day all-cause readmissions. COVID-19 also emerged as one of the top 10 conditions with the highest number of adult readmissions. HCUP Fast Stats: National IP & ED Dashboards (05/08/2024)

• AHRQ has released new information in HCUP Fast Stats. The National Hospital Utilization and Costs topic has been updated to include national statistics through 2021. This topic presents national statistics on inpatient stays—trends, most common diagnoses, and most common operations—and trends in emergency department visits.

The 2021 Nationwide Ambulatory Surgery Sample (NASS) is now available (04/17/2024)

• AHRQ has released the 2021 NASS through the HCUP Central Distributor Online Reporting System.

HCUP Statistical Brief #306: Overview of Outcomes for Inpatient Stays Involving Sepsis, 2016-2021 (PDF file, 1,118 KB;)(04/17/24)

• Annual trends in the number of inpatient stays and In-hospital mortality rate for stays involving sepsis are presented across year and patient type. From 2016-2019, the number of all sepsis-related inpatient stays in the US increased by 20.1%. With the emergence of COVID-19, the number of all sepsis related inpatient stays increased by 26.5% from 2019 to 2021. See HCUP Statistical Brief #306 for additional findings
