Harvest Information Program

Waterfowl and webless migratory bird hunters are required to register with the Harvest Information Program.

Information

New in 2023: Hunters must register for the Harvest Information Program through their customer profile in the Nebraska Game and Parks permit system. It will be available starting Aug. 1. For instructions, Log in at GoOutdoorsNE.com.

The Migratory Bird Harvest Information Program helps track the numbers of migratory birds harvested throughout the country. This program allows Nebraska Game and Parks and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to gain more reliable estimates of hunting activity. These estimates give biologists the information they need to make sound decisions about hunting seasons, bag limits and species management.

HIP is required by federal regulation of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. HIP registration is free and good for one year (valid from Aug. 1 to July 31 of the following calendar year). It must be obtained annually.

Who needs to register

Anyone planning to hunt doves, ducks, coot, geese, snipe, rail or woodcock between Aug. 1 and July 31 of the following calendar year must register with HIP before hunting. Residents, nonresidents – even those already registered in another state – lifetime permit holders, veterans and senior permit holders must register.

Only Nebraska residents under 16 years of age are exempt.

Registration help

If you are experiencing problems registering for a HIP number please give us a call or reach out to your nearest district office between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday to Friday.
