Leader of the council visits Dewsbury and District Hospital
The team at Dewsbury Hospital were delighted to welcome Councillor Shabir Pandor last week.
The Leader met front-line clinical teams, and local Kirklees social care teams, to understand more about how they work together to ensure patients requiring social care support in Kirklees have a shorter stay in hospital.
When commenting on the visit Councillor Pandor said:
“I met wonderful and inspirational staff at Dewsbury Hospital who are doing sterling work. Seeing how the two teams work so seamlessly together, and being able to hear from patients about their positive experiences, was brilliant. It’s a great example of how a local NHS trust can work together with the local council for the benefit of all.
I also saw first hand the investment The Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust is putting into the long term sustainability of our local hospital, which demonstrates the Trust’s commitment to Dewsbury Hospital.”
The Trust has been developing its approach to more collaborative working with the council over recent months, introducing social workers from the Hospital Avoidance Team (HATS) to work alongside the nursing and therapy teams on the wards and in A&E.
Trudie Davies, Chief Operating Officer, at The Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust, said:
“By introducing this way of working patients can have their care needs assessed in a much more timely manner, which helps them to leave hospital as soon as they are well. This ultimately reduces their length of stay in hospital, or can even result in them not needing to be admitted at all.
It’s brilliant to see this working so well and these teams so unified in their approach to providing an excellent patient experience each and every time.”
