Bats are economically and ecologically beneficial, and are important parts of healthy ecosystems. However, bats are frequently found roosting in buildings, including schools, hospitals, houses, garages, and stadiums, where they can cause problems. Bats are protected in Florida, and it is unlawful to exclude bats during the maternity season (April 15-August 15), a time period when female bats form colonies and raise young bats that are not yet able to fly. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, University of Florida – Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, and the Florida Bat Conservancy have produced this video to describe safe and effective methods for removing bats from buildings by conducting a bat exclusion. Learn from bat experts from across the state about the rules and regulations regarding bats and how to properly install bat exclusion devices.
