Teachers play a major role in inspiring children and young people and providing them with the best start in life.
Now you can have the chance to be involved by becoming a teacher through Kirklees Council’s nationally recognised teacher training programme.
Teaching Fair
The programme has already supported over 650 people to secure work in primary and secondary schools and you can learn more at a Teaching Fair taking place on Wednesday 4 March 2020. The teaching fair is organised by School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) and School Direct providers from Kirklees and surrounding areas, who are all recognised as high-quality providers of initial teacher training.
The event, running from 3pm to 6.30pm at Huddersfield Town Hall, is a chance to find out the different routes into teaching and which one is best for you. There are details about the various funding options and you can talk to current and newly qualified teachers to hear all about their experiences. Plus, teacher training providers – not just from Kirklees but also covering Calderdale and Bradford – will be on hand to answer all your questions
People who join a school-based teacher training route benefit from working in a school right from the start, instead of being based in a Higher Education setting.
Cllr Carole Pattison, Cabinet member for Learning, Aspiration and Communities, said:
“SCITT trainees gain immediate experience of being in the classroom, where they gain confidence and receive valuable support. It is a comprehensive programme which has been highly successful in developing excellent teachers and is rated as ‘good’ by Ofsted.
The teaching fair is bringing together a wide range of professionals and will include everything you need to know Training as a teacher opens up a world of opportunities – both in launching a new career and in shaping and changing young lives.”
