Intimate partner violence and custody rights - Exchange of views - 25.03.2021
On 25 March 2021, the JURI Committee and the FEMM Committee considered the amendments to the joint draft own-initiative report on "The impact of intimate partner violence and custody rights on women and children".
In the draft report, the co-rapporteurs strongly condemn all forms of violence against women and deplore the fact that women continue to be exposed to intimate partner violence. The draft report stresses that the protection of women and children from violence and the best interests of the child must be paramount and calls for mandatory targeted training for judicial and law enforcement officers about domestic violence and its mechanisms. It calls on the Commission and the Member States to provide quality, gender-segregated and comparable EU-wide data and to promote better access to legal protection.
