The U.S. Department of Energy Solar Energy Technologies Office (SETO) has issued a request for information (RFI) to gather input on barriers to rapid community solar deployment and other community-serving models to increase solar access, including meaningful benefits such as bill reductions, workforce development, local resiliency, and community wealth building.

SETO requests feedback from community-based organizations, local businesses, and state and local governments. SETO is also interested in feedback from stakeholders serving environmental justice communities and fossil fuel transitioning communities, and other groups that work with individuals and organizations with high energy burdens.

The goal of this RFI is to inform the National Community Solar Partnership’s priorities and better understand how SETO can support increased, equitable deployment of community solar to help reduce energy poverty through community wealth building.

This RFI covers three broad categories:

  • Equitable deployment and greater access
  • Strategies for meaningful bill savings and other benefits of community solar
  • Innovative business models
