Ocean acidification: a threat to marine ecosystems and economies in the Commonwealth and beyond
Join us on 14 November for an event in London hosted by the Economist Impact Group Back to Blue Initiative. The event will launch “Ocean Acidification, A Time for Action: The role of action plans in tackling a mounting ocean crisis” a policy report calling on National Governments to rise to the challenge of developing National OA Action Plans.

Ocean and climate are intrinsically linked. OA Alliance members are leading discussions across climate and ocean platforms, ensuring that commitments, policies and communications accurately reflect their interdependence.
Global problems like ocean acidification have local impacts and require unique actions. Through the development of OA Action Plans, OA Alliance members are proactively responding to the impacts of OA and promoting solutions that advance knowledge into local action.

An OA Action Plan encompasses the actions that OA Alliance members will take (or are taking) to better understand the impacts of OA to their region and accelerate OA mitigation, adaptation, and resilience nearshore.

International and multi-government commitments play an important role in stimulating collective action.
OA Alliance members are calling for carbon emissions reductions alongside ocean mitigation and adaptation actions under international climate frameworks like the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda. We also deliver on OA commitments to the Our Ocean Conference and co-lead outcomes for the OA Research for Sustainability Program under the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainability.
We are building a robust global network to accelerate urgency for climate-ocean action and transform policy response and financing.
