LAREDO, Texas – Within 24 hours of each other, Laredo Sector Border Patrol agents stopped two human smuggling attempts.

The first incident occurred on Dec. 9, when agents assigned to the Laredo South Station responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in a ranch south of Laredo, Texas. Agents discovered seven undocumented individuals from the country of Mexico.

The second incident occurred early this morning when a pickup truck hauling a trailer approached the immigration checkpoint on U.S. Highway 59, west of Freer, Texas.  A search of the trailer revealed 24 undocumented individuals from the countries of Mexico, Honduras, and Guatemala hiding inside.

All undocumented individuals along with the drivers were taken into custody to be processed accordingly.

Despite the threat of the COVID-19 pandemic, smugglers continue to show little or no regard for the safety of our Nation and those they take advantage of by utilizing dangerous means to transport them.  Laredo Sector Border Patrol agents will continue to keep our country and communities safe as they strive to uphold the agency’s Core Values of Vigilance, Service, and Integrity.
