Kansas Connecting Communities

In Kansas, we believe all moms deserve access to the mental and behavioral health supports they need to thrive. Kansas Connecting Communities (KCC) is a five-year collaborative initiative between the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) Title V Maternal and Child Health (MCH) program and several state and local partners. KCC aims to improve the mental health and well-being of pregnant and postpartum women through increased screening, timely assessment, effective referrals and reducing barriers to accessing treatment. KCC is focused on building provider capacity to treat and refer perinatal clients through access to psychiatric consultations, telehealth, peer support referrals, technical assistance and training opportunities.

KCC works with healthcare providers (e.g., OB/GYNs, family practice, primary care physicians, midwives, pediatricians, advanced practice providers, etc...), public health professionals, behavioral health clinicians, and other providers who serve perinatal clients.

Services Include:

  • Free Psychiatric Consultation and Care Coordination service for providers serving perinatal families experiencing behavioral health complications.
  • Access to free trainings, including continuing education credits, and customized consultations with the perinatal behavioral health consultation line team, which includes a psychiatrist and APRN, DNP, PMHNP-BC (reproductive psychiatry, child & family psychiatry, addiction treatment). Consultation Line staff bios are coming soon!
  • Best practice recommendations and connection to patient and provider resources related to perinatal mental health and substance use identification and treatment.
