Current and upcoming fishing opportunities
- Sturgeon retention fisheries above Bonneville Dam have closed for the remainder of 2025.
- The States have set the dates for the Columbia River recreational spring Chinook fishery downstream of Bonneville Dam and from Bonneville Dam to the Oregon/Washington Border. Please see the fishing regulation update page for details.
- Winter steelhead and a few spring Chinook are making an appearance in the lower Columbia River.

Fish consumption advisories
The Oregon Health Authority has issued consumption guidelines for parts of the Columbia River due to high levels of mercury and/or PCBs. Fish with these chemicals look, act, smell and taste like any other fish, so caution is important.

Salmon, steelhead and shad
On Saturday's (3/15) effort count, there were 32 boats and 87 Oregon bank anglers from the I-5 Bridge down to Lord Island.
Gorge:
No report.
Troutdale:
Weekly checking showed no catch for five boats (10 anglers).
Portland to Warrior Rock:
Weekly checking showed one Chinook kept for 16 boats (29 anglers); and no catch for 20 bank anglers.
Warrior Rock to Rainier:
Weekly checking showed two Chinook kept for 12 boats (28 anglers); and one Chinook kept for 76 bank anglers.
Rainier to Lower Puget Island:
Weekly checking showed one Chinook kept and one Chinook released for 18 boats (35 anglers); and five steelhead kept and one Chinook and seven steelhead released for 178 bank anglers.
Lower Puget Island to Tongue Point/Rocky Point
Weekly checking showed one Chinook kept for 15 boats (29 anglers).
