Child Welfare Virtual Expo 2024: Leading From Where You Are

Wednesday and Thursday, May 22–23, 2024

The Child Welfare Virtual Expo (CWVE) is an annual event sponsored by the Children's Bureau and the Capacity Building Center for States (Center).

Over the course of 2 half-days on Wednesday and Thursday, May 22–23, 2024, the CWVE brought together child welfare leaders and professionals from federal organizations, states, tribes, territories, and local organizations to engage in online discussions and real-time learning opportunities about key components of transformational and inspirational leadership in child welfare.

Throughout the days, attendees had opportunities to meet and network with their peers, access resources and topical tools, and join sessions where they learned from CWVE speakers and presenters who shared their individual expertise, lessons learned, evidence-based practices, and more. All CWVE 2024 sessions were designed by child welfare leaders and experts with years of service and experience, representing jurisdictions and tribes across the country. Each session was loaded with tips, concrete strategies, and best practices designed to help child welfare professionals advance their leadership skills and learn more about transformational and inspirational child welfare leadership and the critical role it plays in workforce resilience, well-being, and dedication and systems change in child welfare.

Session topics included:

  • Shifting Workforce Culture: A Road Trip Toward Safety, Trust, and Alignment
  • Journey to Equity: Leaders' Perspectives on Transformative Tribal Child Welfare Leadership
  • Shattering Ceilings: The Bold Ascent of Two Black Women Into Leadership
  • Reframe, Rename, Reclaim: A Participatory Approach for Recruiting Child Welfare Workers
  • Collective Leadership and Building Psychologically Safe Teams
  • Cultivating Communities of Care to Transform Child Welfare Leadership
