What we do.

Assist in student literacy development.

Many students may live in homes with limited exposure to hearing books read to them or quality books of their own. With students back in schools, we will continue to virtually read aloud to these students and positively impact their literacy development.

Promote the enjoyment of stories and reading for 1st and 2nd graders.

Reading to and with young students increases interest in and motivation to read. Research indicates that interest and motivation positively impacts students’ reading achievement.

Develop a relationship with a student through reading and conversation.

Volunteers virtually read in a 1-on-1 setting to children in 1st and 2nd grade once or twice a week. In some cases, children may read books with or to the volunteers.

“Books shouldn’t be daunting, they should be funny, exciting and wonderful; and learning to be a reader gives a terrific advantage.”

— Roald Dahl
