Nonelected Health Board Members

Under a recently enacted state law, local public health boards must include an equal number of elected and nonelected members. To meet this requirement, the Kitsap Public Health Board expanded from seven to 10 positions in 2022. A public application process was conducted to appoint nonelected members to the board.

KITSAP PUBLIC HEALTH BOARD RESTRUCTURE

The Kitsap Public Health Board was restructured in 2022 to meet the requirements of Engrossed Second Substitute House Bill 1152 and Washington Administrative Code 246-90.

Under these rules, the Health Board expanded from seven to 10 members. Membership now includes an equal number of local elected officials and nonelected community representatives:



Nonelected members are appointed by the Kitsap Board of County Commissioners. Representatives for the Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe and Suquamish Tribe are appointed by the American Indian Health Commission and the tribes.
