Welcome to FMCSA’s WOTAB

Welcome to the website of the Women of Trucking Advisory Board (WOTAB) of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). Chartered by the Secretary of Transportation on February 11, 2022, WOTAB met in public meetings from November 2022 – 2023, and reviewed and deliberated on current industry practices concerning the education, training, mentorship, and outreach to women and identified barriers and industry trends that directly or indirectly discourage women from pursuing and retaining careers in the CMV industry.

FMCSA submitted its recommendations in a Report to Congress required by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (Pub. L. 117-58, section 23007) on January 15, 2025. The report describes FMCSA’s actions to implement WOTAB’s recommendations as submitted in December 2023 report. FMCSA agrees with WOTAB’s recommendations and is committed to working with the private sector to implement them.

Read FMCSA’s Report to Congress here. FMCSA's report on WOTAB's recommendations fulfills the BIL requirement. As such, WOTAB terminates effective January 15, 2025.

FMCSA announced the WOTAB members on August 29, 2022.

WOTAB members represent the following categories:

  • Large trucking companies (more than 100 power units)
  • Mid-sized trucking companies (11-100 power units)
  • Small trucking companies (1-10 power units)
  • Nonprofit organizations in the trucking industry
  • Trucking business associations
  • Independent owner-operators
  • Women professional truck drivers
  • Institutions of higher education or trucking trade schools
  • Other related roles within trucking industry

WOTAB has completed its report with findings and final recommendations to FMCSA as required by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. The Law also requires FMCSA to deliver a report to Congress describing WOTAB’s findings, final recommendations and any actions taken by the Agency to adopt WOTAB’s recommendations (or an explanation of the reasons for not adopting the recommendations).  FMCSA will submit its report to Congress later this year. Read WOTAB's report to FMCSA here.
