Summary/Background (Key Points): 

 

Policy 2202 establishes the eligibility requirements for student enrollment in Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS). Revisions to Section III. J. 3. and Section III. L. are recommended to ensure consistency with the requirements of the Code of Virginia (§ 22.1-3;  § 22.1-4.1) and to streamline the student registration process in order to expedite enrollment of eligible students.

 

Summary of revisions to Policy 2202:

         

  • Remove current requirement for parents to provide notarized, independent supporting documentation for kinship care agreements and court ordered agreement and replace it with the Parent/Legal Guardian Attestation.

 

  • Remove the requirement for Power of Attorney and include language regarding educational decision making in the Parent/Legal Guardian Attestation.

 

  • Eliminate requirement for the coordinator of Student Registration to approve kinship care arrangements and add that the coordinator may verify information submitted by the parent on the signed Parent/Legal Guardian Attestation.

 

Recommendation: That the School Board review and approve proposed revisions to Policy 2202, Eligibility for Enrollment
