More than 47 years ago, a CWA telephone technician in Hollywood, CA started a collection at work to buy new shoes for the children at a nearby orphanage in time for Christmas. This technician was raised in the Hollygrove home for orphaned or abandoned children. He remembered what a rare treasure a new pair of shoes was. News of the collection spread quickly and became an annual tradition for his Local union.

Today, that tradition is being carried on by the CWA 9004 Children’s Fund through its annual Clothe-A-Child Program.

Although the Hollygrove Home no longer houses children, our program lives on. The CWA 9003 Children’s Fund supports kids in our community in other ways. The Fund is keeping the tradition of bringing volunteers and needy children together each holiday season. Through our collaboration with the LA Family Housing in North Hollywood, CA, we are able to create a truly transformative experience for sheltered kids.

LA Family Housing helps nearly 5,000 children and parents end the cycle of homelessness through continuum of housing and supportive services.

Local 9003 is able to keep this tradition alive primarily though annual raffle ticket sales. Merchants, vendors, and many generous individuals donate a long list of fabulous raffle prizes each year. To ensure the ticket sales are done safely the Local has has created a Venmo account to accept the donations. Pandy will fill out the raffle tickets and enter them for you. The raffle tickets will be drawn at our Membership Meeting on January 20th, 2021.

You can support our Clothe-A-Chile program by purchasing raffle tickets today or by designating a contribution through United Way.
