Kansas Forest Service and Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks partner in a hazardous fuels reduction project at Scott Lake and Scott Wildlife Area. Hutchinson Community College students, KFS Staff and local fire departments work together completing a week long mitigation and prescribed fire training incident.
The wildland fire training and hazardous fuels reduction project was started in 2005. Since then over 500 firefighters have been trained, 30 agency cooperators participated and nearly 4500 Kansas acres mitigated with fuel breaks for wildfire and many other safety, habitat and ecological benefits.
