Operation Fight Fentanyl

Operation Fight Fentanyl aims to combat the opioid crisis by hearing from Kentuckians who have been directly impacted by illicit fentanyl. The initiative is part of Attorney General Cameron’s ongoing efforts to combat the opioid epidemic in the Commonwealth.

In 2021, 2,250 Kentuckians lost their lives to overdose death and fentanyl was involved in more than 70 percent of these overdose deaths. Sadly, fentanyl overdoses are now the leading cause of death for Americans aged 18-45.

Fentanyl is a powerful synthetic opioid similar to morphine but is 50 to 100 times more potent, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse. Its dangers are unparalleled. Just two milligrams—the size of the tip of a pencil—is considered a potentially lethal dose of fentanyl.
