Supporting documentation is not a requirement to submit an appeal

By signing and submitting this document, you attest to being the owner of the property entered above and approve Mitzi Gibbs, Tax Assessment Reviewer with the City of Evanston, authorization to file an Appeal for you with the Cook County Assessor (Assessor) and the Cook County Board of Review (BOR) via their websites. I understand that the Assessor and the BOR open for appeals at different times during the year and these dates vary each year, and that both agencies remain open for appeals for 30 days after they officially open.

I further understand that Mitzi Gibbs and the City of Evanston are not acting as a legal representative for you, but instead acting as an advocate assisting you with filing your own property tax appeal with the Assessor and BOR.

I also understand that it may take Ms. Gibbs several days to submit your appeal after receiving your signed authorization, but you should receive an email confirmation from the Assessor or BOR after your appeal has been submitted online. It is estimated that the Assessor's Office and BOR will mail out decision letters within about two to three months after they've officially closed for appeals for the year.

I further understand that if I do not receive an email confirmation from the Assessor or BOR, then it is my responsibility to contact Ms. Gibbs, via email or a phone call to confirm that the appeal was successfully submitted.

After the Cook County Assessor appeal window closes, the BOR appeal window will open some months thereafter. I understand that Ms. Gibbs will AUTOMATICALLY file a BOR appeal once they open for the current year, unless I inform her via email or a phone VM message that I do NOT want her to file a BOR appeal on my behalf.

With the BOR, you have the option to request a hearing. A hearing is not required or necessary to receive a fair review of your appeal. Hearings will take place after the BOR appeal window has closed, but before the BOR makes a decision. Do you wish to request a hearing with the BOR? Yes or No.*

Please note that due to high volume, it may take several days for the City to file your appeal online. If you have any questions please contact Mitzi Gibbs, Tax Assessment Reviewer at MGibbs@CityofEvanston.org.
