VIUS is conducted in partnership with the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS), Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), to better understand the characteristics and use of trucks on our nation's roads.

The 2021 VIUS Public Use File has been released on the Census Bureau Microdata Access Tool (MDAT). The Microdata Access Tool (MDAT) is available through data.census.gov, and allows users to create custom tabulations with Public Use Microdata.

Data Release
An Experimental Data Product was released on September 28, 2023, for the 2021 Vehicle Inventory and Use Survey (VIUS). This product provided national level tabulations by combining survey estimates from the 49 states and the District of Columbia which participated in the survey with model-based estimates created for the state of New Hampshire, which did not participate in the survey.
