Visit State Parks. Check In. Earn Prizes.

The Iowa State Park Passport is back! With a new way to earn points, you’ll love discovering hidden gems in the state park system.

Park visitors can sign up and download the State Park Passport onto a mobile device to earn points toward prizes and giveaway opportunities. In its fifth year, the Passport has been a popular way to explore new parks and track outdoor adventures.

How to Play:

Passport holders can earn points by checking into more than 60 state parks and forests using the online app. Each park has a different point value (either 100, 200 or 300 points), with “hidden gem parks” earning higher points.

Build points to redeem prizes. If you cash in, start back at zero and keep visiting parks to earn additional prizes:

  • 500 points – any passholder redeeming at this level gets $5.00 an overnight camping stay.

  • 1,000 points – first 500 passholders to redeem at this level get a beautiful and unique sticker! Created by Iowa artist Naomi Friend, choose from 20 different state park designs.

  • 2,500 points – first 300 passholders to redeem at this level get a free Iowa state park t-shirt.

Grand Prize – each check-in will be counted as an entry for a grand prize of a 3-night stay at a cabin at Backbone State Park. No limit to the number of entries per passholder!

Iowan Artist, Naomi Friend

Naomi Friend is an artist living in Story City Iowa. She explores the state of Iowa with the excuse of making art. For the 100th anniversary of Iowa's state parks in 2020, she began a project to make a sticker design for every state park in Iowa (more than 70 parks!). Each piece of graphic art is a precious memento of a day spent outdoors with family and friends or in restorative solitude enjoying a hike and observing wildlife.

Naomi graduated from Dordt University in 2020 with a BA in Graphic Design and from Iowa State University in 2013 with an MFA in Integrated Visual Arts. She lives and works at her 3 acre flower farm and floral shop Friend's Flowers with her husband, son, and daughter.
