Net Zero HomeCome tour Weber State University’s Net-Zero energy home and see how it’s possible to build an affordable, Net-Zero energy home.
Weber State University is a Top 10 Finalist in the 2020 Department of Energy Solar Decathlon collegiate competition to design and build a Net-Zero energy home. Students from the Department of Construction & Building Sciences make up the senior project team representing the programs of Building Design & Construction, Interior Design, and Construction Management. The home is designed to make the "True Cost of Ownership" affordable to occupants by nearly eliminating energy bills. It is estimated that the energy costs to operate the home will be just over $120 annually.

SLC Active Transportation Facilities TourSalt Lake City has implemented several types of bicycle facilities to enable greater ease in traveling the city by bicycle. Individuals will experience different bicycle infrastructure in an urban environment, with an emphasis on high comfort facilities, in an effort to answer the question, "Would you ride your bike here?"Logistics:
Bicycles for the tour are generously provided by GREENBike. GREENBike has specific COVID-19 safety protocols established for all their bicycles. Feel free to bring your own bike if so desired.
Tour size limited to 15 individuals.
COVID-19 Protocols: In order to protect attendees as well as tour guides the following protocols will be in place for the tour:
All attendees must wear masks; neck gaiters/buffs do not meet this requirement. Biking speeds will be low enough that masks will not inhibit breathing while riding.
All attendees must practice six-foot social distancing at stops along the tour.
All attendees are responsible for their own water and snacks.
Anti-bacterial wipes will be available to wipe down bicycles before the ride.

Downtown SSL and Creative Industries ZoneSouth Salt Lake "rediscovered" itself in the process of master planning for a new downtown, with entertainment, dining, businesses, in an industrial area that seemed to be a blank slate, it found many lively and thriving businesses eager to help shape the area and preserve its funkiness and vibe. Working with the South Salt Lake Arts Council, they developed a plan for "creative placemaking" and to shape an identity that they call the Creative Industry Zon. Today , the neighborhood is known for art studios, breweries and distilleries, and Muralfest. High Density Housing OverlayTo aid median-income homebuyers, Grand County passed the High Density Housing Overlay ordinance in 2019. This allows developers in certain zones to apply to build at a higher density than otherwise allowed. In exchange, the developer must agree to deed-restrict 80% of the housing units in their development to primary residents of Grand County who are actively employed, with some exceptions to include retirees and people with disabilities.
