At the 2023 USAging Annual Conference and Tradeshow in Salt Lake City, USAging staff held a roundtable discussion on rural health and social engagement. This blog post includes feedback and highlights from the 54 session participants from all regions of the U.S. in a broad range of sectors including but not limited to aging and disability services, transportation, technology, health care and government.

2023 What Works: Social Engagement Innovations and Best Practices
This publication spotlights a range of programs featured on the engAGED Innovations Hub that employ a variety of social engagement interventions and tap into an array of partners to reach consumers.
Join engAGED and Commit to Connect at our annual National Summit to Increase Social Connections. The virtual conference will take place on May 14 from 1:00 to 4:00 PM ET and May 15 from 1:00 to 3:30 PM ET. This year, speakers and attendees will explore how to leverage technology to advance social connections for older adults and people with disabilities. The summit will bring together local, state and national leaders from across sectors working to address social isolation and loneliness. The virtual National Summit to Increase Social Connections is free and open to the public, but you must register in advance to participate! This event will include CART closed captioning and ASL interpretation.

ACL's Commit to Connect initiative and engAGED hosted a webinar on promoting social connection among older adults living with HIV/AIDS. During the webinar, Dr. Paul Nash of the Los Angeles County Commission on HIV and the University of Southern California shared the latest research on HIV and aging and the Detroit Area Agency on Aging highlighted its Food & Friendship Connections program, which provides social connection for older adults living with HIV. Attendees also heard from a person with lived experience on the importance of developing social connection opportunities for older adults living with HIV. Watch Now
The engAGED August webinar focused on physical fitness and social engagement. During the webinar, YMCA of the USA, the National Council on Aging and the National Recreation and Park Association highlighted strategies for ways organizations can use physical activity as a hook to promote and encourage social engagement among older adults. Speakers also shared examples of potential partners for collaboration at the local level.
