Conservatives point out that Princeton study on protests reveals violence was found at hundreds of demonstrations

Conservatives pointed out that a recent study conducted in part by Princeton showed hundreds of Black Lives Matter protests were violent, despite most being peaceful.

A report published by the U.S. Crisis Project, a joint effort by the Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project and the Bridging Divides Initiative at Princeton, found that about 93% of more than 10,600 demonstrations over the course of three months this summer have been peaceful.

The study found that of those 10,600 protests, 7,750 were connected to the Black Lives Matter movement.

“In more than 93% of all demonstrations connected to the movement, demonstrators have not engaged in violence or destructive activity. Peaceful protests are reported in over 2,400 distinct locations around the country. Violent demonstrations, meanwhile, have been limited to fewer than 220 locations — under 10% of the areas that experienced peaceful protests,” the study reported.

Conservatives on Twitter noted that the findings leave 7% of protests in a violent category.

“Princeton University group studies 3 months of Black Lives Matter protests. Intent is to show they are ‘overwhelmingly peaceful.’ But report reveals nearly 570 violent demonstrations–riots–in nearly 220 locations spread all across country,” Byron York tweeted, garnering support from other conservatives.

Journalist and self-described “disaffected liberal” Tim Pool also noted that the study found there were no riots in Seattle’s Capitol Hill Organized Protest zone despite multiple shootings and deaths.

“This is the best part. There were no riots in CHOP! Just Protest! And, of course, several dead people,” Pool tweeted. “Factual but not truthful.”

Riots have been repeatedly declared this summer in cities such as Portland and Seattle, sparked by the death of George Floyd and other black Americans who have been shot or killed during interactions with police.

President Trump has called for local leaders to gain control of their cities and has positioned himself as the “law and order” candidate ahead of November’s election.

“During their convention, Joe Biden and his supporters remained completely silent about the rioters and criminals spreading mayhem in Democrat-run cities. They never even mentioned it during their entire convention. Never once mentioned. Now, they are starting to mention it because their poll numbers are going down like a rock in water,” he said during the Republican National Convention.
