Adult & Community Education

Adult and Community Education Advisory Committee Draft Charge Statement for FY 23:

Collaborate with staff to leverage data and County resources (including business and community partnerships) to position ACE, Adult ESOL, and Fairfax County Adult High School programs in identifying and responding to the needs and skill gaps of our increasingly diverse community.

 
Advanced Academic Programs AAPAC will explore existing approaches to Honors coursework and expectations across FCPS middle schools through the lens of the findings from the 2021-22 SY report. The committee will seek to identify the degree of common commitment, areas of need for district professional learning, and other areas for improvement.  
Career & Technical Education

In collaboration with key stakeholders, ensure equitable awareness, access, and participation in all CTE programs. Ensure greater awareness of career-readiness options provided by CTE programs with a new emphasis on exposure to working in a virtual or hybrid workplace, workforce trends, and growing leadership skills.

 
Facilities Planning Advisory Council

FPAC suggests that its 2022-2023 Annual Charge from the School Board include continuing to work with staff and build on our work to:  
•    Continue to develop the long-range vision for FCPS school facilities;
•    Provide 
input to the proposed renovation queue assessment criteria and assist with the evaluation of the assessment to determine the updated renovation queue;

•    Provide further support to facilitate implementation of the accepted FPAC major maintenance and asset management recommendations and to monitor the Falls Church High School renovation;

•    Advise and assist with the development and implementation of updated boundary policies; and,
•    Assess 
how FCPS can incorporate and evaluate the Joint Environmental Taskforce (JET) goals and achieve greater energy efficiency and environmental sustainability throughout its facilities.

 
Human Resources

The HRAC will make recommendations to improve practices used by FCPS leadership personnel at school and district levels to promote a rewarding workplace environment. It will include considerations that address recruitment, hiring, staff development and retention of employees at all levels across FCPS.

 

 
Minority Student Achievement Oversight Committee

MSAOC Proposed Charge 2022-23 

Determine how FCPS is implementing an equity policy plan; creating greater avenues to close opportunity gaps; and eliminate discrimination and harassment of targeted groups, including those based on race/ethnicity, gender and gender identity, national origin, students with disabilities and religion.
 
School Health SHAC will focus on learning more about the impact of technology use on student wellness, including physical and mental health, physical activity, social-emotional well-being, and sleep. We will seek to understand best practices in the use of educational technology in schools for various age groups and seek direct student and family feedback.  
Students with Disabilities

2022-2023 Advisory Committee for Students with Disabilities (ACSD) School Board Charge 

  • Examine current practices regarding the referral process; staffing standards; academic, behavioral, and wellness programming; and the provision of special  education and related services at the five Public Separate Day sites in FCPS (Key Center, Kilmer Center, Burke School, Cedar Lane School, Quander Road School).
  • Review evidenced-based and research-based practices regarding Public Separate Day schools for students with disabilities.
  • Based on a review of evidenced-based and research-based practices, make recommendations designed to improve staff recruitment and retention at FCPS Public Separate Day sites.
  • Based on a review of evidenced-based and research-based practices, make recommendations designed to ensure consistency in the student referral process to a FCPS Public Separate Day site compliant with the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) requirements in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
