Many people have experienced sexual assault or sexual harassment during military service, which is known as military sexual trauma (MST). As a result, VA developed Beyond MST, a free self-help mobile app designed specifically to support the health and wellbeing of MST survivors.

Join Dr. Chris Skidmore, from VA’s Office of Mental Health and Suicide Prevention, on Thursday, Jan. 27, at 1 p.m. ET for the webinar: “Beyond MST: Using the New Mobile App to Enhance Treatment for MST Survivors.” Learn about how Beyond MST can help both MST survivors and health care professionals.

What is MST?

People of all ages, genders, races and ethnicities, and sexual orientations have experienced MST. MST can be associated with a wide range of physical and mental health conditions. Because of this, and because care providers will not always know whether or not someone experienced MST, it is important for any professional caring for Veterans and former service members to be familiar with VA’s free MST-related services and resources.

How does Beyond MST help?

MST survivors may have unique needs and preferences. Beyond MST is an innovative new resource to help address those needs. Beyond MST is secure and private. Users do not need to create an account or be in treatment to use the app. The app also doesn’t share any personal information.

Beyond MST was developed with input from MST survivors and professionals who work with them. It has over 30 specialized tools and other features to help survivors cope with challenges, manage symptoms, improve their quality of life and find hope. Survivors can also take brief assessments in the app and track progress toward personal goals.

The app is not intended to replace professional treatment, but it can help survivors in and out of care find hope, connect to resources and realize they’re not alone. It can also be used to enhance and support MST-related treatment.

Find out more about the app from the Beyond MST webpage or by searching for “Beyond MST” in the App Store or Play Store.
